Project Description
Waterborne Defoamers for Paints & Coatings | INVINO®
Foam in waterborne coatings causes real production problems: micro-voids and surface craters, poor film formation, and inconsistent gloss during drawdown. A defoamer has to do two jobs at once — knock down macro-foam fast during high-speed pigment grinding, and keep suppressing micro-foam through let-down and storage. Reliable foam control is essential when formulating architectural latex paints, wood coatings, industrial primers, and water-based inks.
INVINO® supplies non-silicone mineral oil compounds and silicone emulsions tuned for both fast macro-foam knockdown and micro-bubble release. They control interfacial surface tension to protect substrate wetting, flow and leveling, and a uniform dry film — without causing fish-eyes or loss of gloss.

If you currently buy an international coatings defoamer, INVINO® offers performance-matched equivalents at China-direct pricing — the same foam control and finish, at a lower landed cost. Send us your current grade name or TDS; our lab cross-references it, ships a free sample, and you validate it in your own drawdown and milling tests before switching.
Cross-reference equivalents available for BYK · Münzing (Agitan) · BASF (Foamaster) · Dow · Evonik (TEGO) grades.
Key Benefits of Waterborne Defoamers
Prevents fish-eyes, pinholes, and orange peel for a smooth, uniform high-gloss finish.
Improves wet-film flow and leveling on high-shear grinding lines for full, even coverage with minimal surface defects.
Effective at low dosage (0.1%–0.3% w/w), cutting chemical use and batch compounding time.
Safe for latex paints, acrylic emulsions, waterborne inks, and architectural polymer resins.
Meets VOC regulations and is non-APEO — suitable for modern green-chemistry formulations.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Will the defoamer cause surface defects like cratering or "fisheyes"?
A: Incorrect dosing or poor dispersion can create local surface tension differences that lead to cratering. INVINO® mineral oil grades use a balanced emulsifier system tuned to the acrylic polymer matrix to prevent fish-eyes.
Should I add the defoamer during the Grind or the Let-down stage?
A: Use a split-dosing protocol. Add about 50% during the pigment grind to control the foam from high mechanical shear, then add the remaining 50% at let-down for long-term persistence in storage.
Is it effective for high-pressure Airless Spray applications?
A: Yes. Airless atomization causes heavy air entrainment. High-viscosity grades such as INVINO-604 keep their active structure under high shear and maintain anti-foaming performance at the spray tip.
Does this defoamer affect the gloss or clarity of the coating?
A: Heavy loading of mineral oil can lower gloss. For clear coats and high-gloss decorative varnishes that need optical clarity, use INVINO-3100 or the INVINO-604 silicone grade.
How does it perform after long-term storage (Shelf Life)?
A: INVINO® mineral oil and silicone grades have a 12-month shelf life when kept sealed, out of direct sunlight, between 5°C and 35°C.
