Project Description

Sugar Mill Defoamer — Reliable Foam Control for  Sugar Production

Foam disrupts throughput and quality across cane sugar operations—from juice clarification and filtration to evaporation, vacuum pans, crystallization, washing, and packaging. Left unchecked, foam causes level trips, carryover, off-spec crystals, and higher operating costs. Choosing the right sugar mill defoamer is critical to stable, efficient production.

INVINO® supplies high-performance polyether-based defoamers  for both traditional sugar mills and modern sugar plants. Our formulations deliver fast knock-down and long-lasting suppression at low dosage, helping mills cut chemical consumption while protecting sugar quality.

Sugar Mill Defoamer Applications & Selection

  • Diffusion & Washing

Use a polyether sugar mill defoamer to rapidly knock down foam layers in diffusion juice and wash water. This improves percolation efficiency, stabilizes water circuits, and does not interfere with extraction chemistry or process additives.

  • Juice Purification (Lime / Sulfitation / Carbonatation)

Fine bubbles often carry process aids downstream. A polyether sugar industry antifoam provides excellent dispersion and sustained suppression, reducing entrainment while remaining compatible with clarification, flocculation, and filtration systems.

  • Evaporation & Final Product Stage

Across multiple-effect evaporation and subsequent concentration, a polyether defoamer for sugar plants maintains stable foam control over a wide pH and temperature window, reducing entrainment and enabling consistent pan boils, crystallization, and final handling/packaging.

Polyether Sugar Mill Defoamer — Quick Selector

Process Step Recommended Chemistry Targets & Traits
Diffusion & Washing Polyether (PAG / EO–PO) Rapid foam knock-down; stable diffusion/wash-water throughput; good compatibility; low residue
Juice Purification (Lime / Sulfitation / Carbonatation) Polyether (low-foam, micro-bubble control) Sustained suppression; reduced entrainment; compatible with clarification/flocculation/filtration systems
Evaporation & Final Product Stage Polyether (high-temperature stability)   High-temperature foam control; reduced carryover and surging; supports consistent pan boils  and crystallization
Transfer & Utility Water Polyether Stable level/flow measurement; lowers overall system foaming tendency

Q: Is your defoamer food-grade compliant?
Yes. Since sugar is a food ingredient, safety is our top priority. Our sugar mill defoamers are formulated with food-grade ingredients (Polyol fatty acid esters or Sucrose esters) that comply with FDA 21 CFR regulations. We can also provide Kosher and Halal certifications upon request.
Q: Will the defoamer affect the crystallization or sugar yield?
No, quite the opposite. By effectively controlling foam in the evaporators and vacuum pans, it improves heat transfer efficiency and prevents "sugar boiling over" (loss of syrup). It does not inhibit crystal growth and helps maintain the purity of the final sugar.
Q: Can it withstand high temperatures in the evaporators?
Yes. Our defoamers are designed for high-temperature stability (up to 120°C - 140°C). They will not break down, separate, or lose efficacy during the intense heating process in the multiple-effect evaporators.
Q: Does it cause scaling on the heat exchanger tubes?
No. We use non-scaling formulas (free from silicones or minerals that might carbonize). This helps extend the cleaning cycle of your equipment and prevents the buildup of deposits on the heating tubes.
Q: How does it affect the viscosity of the syrup?
Our defoamer helps reduce the surface tension and apparent viscosity of the syrup. This improves the flowability of the molasses and massecuite, making pumping easier and reducing energy consumption during processing.
Q: Is it suitable for both Cane Sugar and Beet Sugar processing?
Yes. While the foaming mechanisms differ slightly (starch/wax in cane vs. saponins in beet), we have specific grades for both. It is effective in all stages: washing flumes, diffusion, liming, and evaporation.
